Acupuncture is a breeze and it is also normal to be a little nervous.
You will do great. you’re in good hands.
Please bring your completed paperwork with you.
When we sit down together I may have a couple further questions for you regarding your case. We will discuss your goals. Think about this ahead of time. What are you hoping to achieve?
I’ll answer any questions you may have, and give you realistic expectations about treatment.
I’ll give you my best recommendation in terms of a treatment plan, and explain how to adjust timing and frequency of treatments to maximize the effects of Chinese Medicine.
At your first treatment we will do a proper assessment to determine the best course of action.
The assessment may include looking at your tongue, pulse diagnosis, Hara diagnosis (a form of palpation for diagnosis of body systems), and range of motion.
For treatment you will be lying in a comfortable position, may be facing up or facing down.
If you are pregnant depending on what trimester you are, you may be lying on your left side unless working on left hip for example, or you may be sitting up on the treatment table or on a chair.
On the treatment table we will need access to your arms and legs and belly. if facing down you may need to remove your shirt so I may have access to your back like with a massage.
I will wield my magic tiny wands (acupuncture needles), you will have time for yourself to rest for about 20minutes. Most people either zone out during this time, take a much needed nap, go into a very deep meditative state where you are in between wake and sleep, what I call the “in-between” or “other dimension”.
Many people report they see colors, or that time passed really quick “it felt like only 5minutes” “it felt like you just left”. Some people will feel their body energy, or movements in the body, the needles buzzing or electricity.
What they all report is feeling relaxed, and better than they did when they came in. This is caused by the calming of the nervous system and the release of feel good hormones.
I’ll check in on you half way to make sure you are comfortable and don’t need anything. Next treatment you may not want me interrupting your rest.
When the time is up, needles will be removed, and you will gracefully float over to the front desk when you are ready.
Take your time before heading out to drive. You can stay in out waiting area as long as you need drinking a warm cup of tea. ☕
Other terms:
Acu-high or Acu-drunk- the feeling of euphoria and calmness you feel after an acupuncture treatment releases a rush of endorphins (feel-good hormones.
